What is double-cleansing?

Double-cleansing refers to a 2-step process of washing your face. (Please tell me you’re already washing your face).

Step 1 is removing makeup/dirt/sebum from the skin. A.K.A using a cleansing oil/balm to melt all that down and lift it from the skin. And YES cleansing oils are good for oily skin! They attach to other oils and lift away when water is added.

Step 2 is actually cleansing the -skin-. Now that the skin is free of makeup and dirt, the cleanser can do its job!

Why is it important?

If you’re only doing one cleanse on top makeup, chances are there’s residue left in your pores. In the scenario of improper cleansing, your skin is absorbing impurities during sleep (now that’s spooky). This can cause acne, inflammation, and premature aging.

What kind of products are good for removing makeup?

Cleansing oils

Cleansing oils are super easy to use. Just apply directly onto skin with dry hands. Massage and work into the skin. Then, add water. This will cause the product to emulsify and lift from the skin. Just rinse and follow with your regular cleanser.

Biossance Squalane + Antioxidant Cleansing Oil

Dermologica Pre-Cleanse

Cleansing Balms

This entails essentially the same process, except the product will be semi-solid instead of liquid. It will melt as you apply it. Like butter :)

Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Enzyme Cleansing Balm

Drunk Elephant Slaii Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser

Hopefully we will all be double-cleansing at the end of the day, at least if there is makeup involved. Per usual, if there are any questions email
